A junior team member who was moving out wanted to overstate their work on a resume. This happened a few months back. Their logic was chillingly simple. "Everyone I’m competing with is doing it." I was not comfortable. This thinking is a poison that is wrecking young careers before they even start.

First, let’s be absolutely clear. Blaming peer pressure is a cop-out. It is always a personal CHOICE. When a founder is pressured to grow at all costs, they make a choice. When a student chooses to inflate their resume, they make a choice. This choice puts you on a slippery slope.

You are actively choosing to lower your own integrity. You are trading your long-term credibility for the tiny chance of a short-term interview. And this is a TERRIBLE trade.

And, the real problem isn't just the risk of getting caught. It's the rot that starts from within. When you get something via a shortcut, you miss the entire journey. You cheat yourself out of the hard work where real character is forged and deep skills are actually learned.

Contrast this with a senior colleague of mine. Last year, our finance team accidentally transferred a higher amount to him. And, Gaurav, who has been with us for years, flagged it immediately. That one small act built an insane amount of credibility. THAT is the currency of a real career. Not a polished lie on a piece of paper.

CREDIBILITY.

The thing is - choosing the correct, ethical path is always harder. But it’s where the magic happens. It forces you to dig your heels in. It forces you to actually learn.

This path does 3 things for you:
- It builds unbreakable character
- It brings absolute clarity about your real skills
- It forces you to polish the skills that are weak, not just hide them

Building a career isn't about landing the next job. It’s about building a reputation. It's about clarity, a high ethical quotient, and giving your absolute best wherever you are. And to people who are mortgaging their entire professional future for a single interview - My humble ask is - THINK AGAIN.
